Bad days (Open!)

I wheeled myself into Spongebob my cremello quarter horse's stall and sighed saying, "hmmmm.... these past few day have been Horrible! i've had so many people stare at me I expected that but to have people tell me that I should just give up and go home because I don't stand a chance here because i'm in wheel chair? People are just cruel! Just because i'm in a wheel chair doesn't mean i'm any less capable then anyone out there who's running laps or jumping i'm still strong and I will walk one day I will! We'll show them buddy we'll show them all that just because we're different doesn't mean were useless"

My sea green eyes were shining in determination and Spongebob threw his head up and down and seemed to whinny in agreement.

I walk Harley past ben, and stop. "Hey!" I say, smiling, then an idea pops into my head. I walk up to Ben. "Have you ever free jumped your horse? It keeps him healthy even when you can't ride him." I say, my eyes bright.

I looked up my eyes are red from crying I smile weakly and say, " I haven't Spongebob freaks out when he goes near jumps so i've never taken him near them"

I lean down next to him, hair falling in front of my face. "I've trained Harley over jumps. It would be a good bonding activity." I look down at his wheelchair. And looked back at him. "This doesn't represent who you were Ben. It represents who you are. Not a cripple. Not a former athlete. Your Ben, who can kick but in dressage and has a horse to prove it." I look at Sponge. "He'll be easy to train over jumps." I say.

I blinked and said, "Thanks Violet" I patted Spongebob's nose

"Your welcome." I stood up suddenly. I walked over to Sponge and patted his neck, and slowly moving my hands down his legs. I look back at Ben. "He's not extremely powerful, but I bet he could do...." I look at Bob again, trying to see him like my trainer would. "2'3 easy. This will also stretch his muscles out and get him better at flying lead changes and half passes. You should try it. Harley loves free jumping. His record is 4'9."

I smiled and said, "Could you show me how it's done i've never seen a horse free jump before"

I nod then lead Harley up into the arena. I set up a 2 foot jump as warmup, then turned to Ben. "When you start, you start lunging your horse in a large circle." Harley cantered around the ring. "He can do it without a lunge rope now. Now once hes in a circle enlarge the circle so the jump is a part of it." Harley cantered the circle and jumped the jump. I smile and throw him a treat. "It;s the most amazing thing seeing a horse jump all on it's own."

My eyes are fixed on Harley are he jumps it was one thing to see a rider and horse jump but it was another thing all together to see a horse jump by it self. I smiled and said, "That looks cool Harley seems to enjoy the freedom"

i smile. "Yeah. It was a big part of his recovery process." I turned toward him. "Do you wanna try with Spongebob? I can help you at 1st." I lowered the jump so it was only a foot high.

I grinned and said, "Sure" I latched the Lunge line to spongebob and clicked my tongue so he'd start walking I let go at a slow walk for the moment letting him get used to his new found freedom.

I nod. "Good. Now tell him to trot." As Sponge trotted around the arena he came to the jump. I grabbed his halter and clicked my tounge, and ran with him toward it. He seemed to shudder for a moment, before leaping the tiny jump. "Good Boy!" I said, and gave him a carrot.

I grinned broadly and said, "Awesome! you did it buddy!" I scratched spongebob under the chin and he stretched his head happily enjoying the attention.

I smile. I set up a 4'3 line and watch as Harley canters it without any direction. "Harley loves free jumping." I say, rubbing his neck.

I smiles and said, "He's good at it too"
