I stepped out the shower, still dripping I flipped my head over and dried it out with my towel, Checking my watch I relaxed. 5:30. Walking out of the bathroom, I changed into my show clothes, then pulled on my sweat shirt, Mountain was a messy drinker. I kept repeating the Dressage pattern in my head, Ride to X, Salute. Working trot to C. Track right and 10 meter circle at B. Collected canter. Free Walk. Working canter on the left lead. 20 meter circle. Medium walk to X, halt and salute. Walking out the door I saw my best friend, Olivia. She had given me some coffee this morning so I could be at my peak for my yent lesson.
"Carrie! Carrie! I am coming how are you?" She called running over and hugging me, "You stayed up late last night!" Olivia said holding my shoulders. "I am fine, I was up to 11:00 repeating the Dressage over and over again." I said starting to walk toward the door. Olivia followed me. Hearing the crunch of grass under my feet reminded me that winter was approaching. Entering the stable, I caught site of her friend, Crystal. "Hey." I said waving, she smiled and waved back. "Moouunntaaiinn!" I sand walking to his stall. He was of course drinking his water, his wet black nose dripping. "Come on boy!" I said clipping his lead to his halter. Walking to the cross ties I clipped them to the halter. I grabbed the hard brush and ran it over him, He looked like the sun with a mane, his coat was glossy and smooth.
Binding over to pick his hooves, I ran my hand down is leg, checking for any sign of hurt. I picked dirt out of his hoof and moved towed the tack room, asking Olivia to watch him while I get his tack. I grabbed his bridle and saddle. I had polished the the day before. Running back to Mountain I checked my watch, 7:30!! My try out was at 7:40. I hurried and strapped Mountains saddle on and quickly put my arm over his neak. I slipped the bridle over his head and lead him out. He was a little jumpy, but that is normal for him. But I was freaking out! I led him into the entrance of the arena and saw Mr. Conner checking his notes. "Oh Hello Carrie." He called out to me. "Hey Mr. Conner." I said walking up to him. "You ready to start?" He asked, I nodded and mounted Mountain.
I walked Mountain to the started line. Then I asked him to walk.Every step seemed like an hour, Here we are. I have made it this far. I thought then repeating the pattern in my head. She got to point X, I saluted and then asked Mountain for a working trot. He did and they trotted to point C. What was next?... TRACK RIGHT! And then.. I kept ringing the pattern in my head, I asked Mountain to do a track right, the when we got to B, we made a 10 meter circle around B. Then started at a collected canter. Mountain heard a faint whinnie and perked his ears, "Shh, boy focus." I whispered, Mountain jerked his head and stated to canter the other way, I quickly corrected him and begun the, Free walk. no daring to look at Mr. Conner I asked Mountain to do a working canter on the left lead, he did and we looked flawless, for a second, I started to bend over but corrected myself. Finishing our 290 meter circle I asked Mountain to, walk to point X. We halted and I saluted.
