I walked into the Ice Cream Shoppe. It was a pretty, warm, day; a great way to start my year at Canterwood. Ever since I first saw it in the top boarding schools in TTeen's magazine, I had become obsessed with it. After what seemed like forever, I was finally here! I walked into the long line, looking at the chalkboard of options. "I would recommend the Mint Chocolate Chip with Caramel Sauce." Someone said behind me. "Yeah, sure!" I said happily. At my old schools I had been shy and withdrawn. I had never really liked talking to people outside of my friends and family, feeling that if I said anything I would look stupid. At Canterwood Crest I had the chance to be a new, better me. I could be the bubbly, outgoing girl that everyone wanted to be friends with. "So, do you play any sports?" I asked Carmel. "I moved here from Missouri." I admitted. "I've moved 12 times before, so it was nothing big." I told her. It was the truth. I had actually kind of enjoyed moving and traveling around the country. I always got to meet so many new people and eat new things, and see different things. One reason I liked moving was because of the new chances I got. I nodded. I'm from California. I get the whole "moving around" thing. I'm a foster kid so I always was transferred from family to family. You just get used to it after a while. I shrugged and took another slip.

I avoided the fact that she was a foster kid. She probably didn't want to talk about it, and I didn't want to intrude since we had just met.

"Let's see..." I began, trying to remember everywhere I had lived. "Boston, New York, Connecticut, Kansas City, Overland Park, Kirkwood, Florida, a couple others, but I can't really remember." I shrugged. I had moved around a lot, mostly when I was younger. The longest that I had ever lived anywhere was for three and a half years.
