Hello, anyone and everyone reading!
You are probably here because you are curious, about what this is. Well this thread is a multi-part "guide to role-playing!" I will be covering everything from Character Making, too just making decent thread replies, and everything in between. I am doing this to benefit the members of this site and the future role players of this site so I have some rules.
- Do not post in this thread unless you are me. I do not want this cluttered. I am strict and I will not pause to message you asking to delete the post.
- If you want me to cover something send me a message and I will cover it here!
- Please respect my options expressed through this. If you want to challenge me on something feel free to send me a message and maybe if I agree I'll change it
Anyways, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

Part 1: Character Application!
What is a character? A character is a fictional being you created to use in the roleplaying world. I stress fictional because people tend to try and make their characters exactly like someone that already exists, but there is no fun in that, now is there? Your character is someone you came up from the most creative part of your mind. This character will be how you represent yourself in the the realm of this board, so choose wisely. Make sure you make a character you enjoy role playing, if you make someone you don't like that much you are more likely to become inactive from boredom. Your character is a "real" person on the boards, they have feelings, flaws, passions, and everything a human would have.
The Canterwood application asks you to fill out 5 different sections, (not including horse which will be explained in future posts) and each section doesn't ask too much of you. I will be going over how to make the most of each section for you.
Face Claim A face claim is the celebrity/model you are basing your characters appearance on. Try and use pictures no larger then 500x400 so it doesn't stretch the board. If you need help finding pictures of your celebrity good their name with gallery, for example my face claim in Karen Gillan so I google Karen Gillan gallery and I go to the fan page based on Karen and use the pictures of her from there.
Basics Character Names and nicknames are some of the hardest part, try and avoid names that are celebrities (i.e. no "Demi Lovato" you can use her picture, not her name.) or names that are on TV shows (No "Aria Montgomery") Try using websites like this to help you figure out first and last names. This is an american boarding school so you generally can only role play someone of the age 18 or under. If you need to look up approximate ages to grades google American School System. Try and base the age of your character off of an age you feel comfortable playing, do push yourself to play an 18 year old if you only really can role play 14 year olds, other wise it might not be as fun.
Deceptions You generally pick your face claim based on how you want your character to look so things like hair and skin colour will be easy to describe with a picture in front of you. Your characters clothing style generally reflected your characters personality, if they are a hipster they're more likely to wear lose flowy tank tops then tight fitted shirt, ect. The past of your character is what shapes them into their current personality, did they move around a lot, were they spoiled, did they struggle in school, ect.
Personality This is it. What you write is is signed in blood basically, you are making a deal with the sea witch herself. What you write here defines your character for the rest of the role play. If you pick your character to be selfish, then thats it. When it comes to letting you and or best friend in life and death you picked a selfish character. Try and mix different traits they could be, bossy, loud, rude, prejudice, angry, violent, unintelligent, boring, dramatic, immature, experienced, crafty, artistic, resilient, interesting, fun, new aged, dorky, popular, insightful, adventurous and trill-seeking. And that is a small list but pick a few of those (three?) and write at least three sentences on them, it helps round out your character. Try and avoid Mary-Sue characters. Mary-Sue(or Marty-Stu) is the perfect person, they win all the shows, pass all the tests, have all the friends, if someone doesn't like them it's because they're jealous. This person is all talent, brains, and beauty. You do not want to be this person. There is nothing fun about it, and you can't really make plot of it, which is what role playing is basically about, creating plots.
Riding When choosing what disciplines you want your character to ride think back to their personality. If they are a trill-seeking they might be more into eventing or racing then just dressage alone. If they have a personality that would make them always looking for speed they generally could fall into the show jumping category. If in your characters past they were injured jumping a horse and it scares them, they're more likely to have dressage here then eventing but that isn't to say Canterwood helps them out of that fear (character development, who knew that could happen?)
The goal of this was to help you develop a better character for you, I hope you read and understood everything any questions PM me (un: izzynutty)

Part 2.a: General Definitions!
Acronyms OOC: Out of character, when you making an out of character comment in the role playing forums, even though you should try and avoid doing that. IC: In character
Words Plotting: Your character's development through time Shipping: Your characters relationship and development with other characters. Carrie: Short for character, I frown upon it, role playing is developing your writing skills and "carrie" is just a cheap shot at the word caracter and a cheat in writing.
more coming soon

Hello again!
What you see above is a plot diagram and I have been working on these in english class lately, and I began to think, what is needed to make a thread worthy. Each thread in it's self is a short story in a characters life, so the idea is you can follow this chart for the best outcome. So I'll explain it a bit.
Exposition: Introduce your character in the setting they are in. This should be like why your character is there, where they are at at this location, what the place smells, looks, any sounds going on what is the feel of the location. This should be your first post.
Inciting Incident(not marked on chart): This is the true start to the story and should also take up on post. It is the big "drama" starter.
Rising Action: This should take up many posts it is where everything happens basically.
Climax: This should be one post, if you were riding, this is the end of your ride, if your working this is the end of your shift ect.
Falling Action: this is where loose ends are tied up and things are winded down, unlike the rising action where things are winded up generally one post maybe two.
Resolution: The last post, this is where you reflect what happened before and your character leaves said location and such.
Hope this helps improve posts everyone!
