She just walked away. Why didn't she tell me? And where do I go tonight. This isn't happening to me, this can't be happening to me. She didn't say a word, just walked away.
The lyrics poured out as Elyse sang underneath her breath. Today was the one month mark of when her mother abandoned her. She had been moping around all day not wanting anything to do with anyone. So far people have left her alone. It still hadn't hit her that she was at this elite boarding school. Just a few short weeks ago she had been sitting at her moldy house cooking instant macaroni on the old wood stove. Elyse sighed. She had been wandering the campus trying to get rid of some of her thoughts that had been nagging at her. With no luck, she had walked lapped the campus three times already. She must look like an idiot walking around and around. This time she passed the pizza place when her stomach growled. She hadn't eaten since early this morning and it was now in the middle of the afternoon.
She didn't really want to go and have to surround herself with people but she didn't really have a choice. She had her first riding lesson in an hour and she would need to have eaten before. She groaned and opened the door. The bell chimed and she whipped her head back while wincing. Elyse had to be on her guard at all times. She couldn't trust anyone here, it was a total death trap. Elyse walked right up to the counter seeing as the store was deserted. She whipered her order to the cashier and whe nthey asked her name she stood there warily. "Why do you want to know my name?" She said suspisiciously. They gave her an answer and she sighed. " Brooke." She said not giving her real name. By no, it was a natural defense not to give her real name.
Elyse stepped off to the side and waited for her slice. When the cashier handed it over, Elyse jerked it out of her hands and bolted off to the farthest booth from windows. She sat down but still ready to pounce out if it came to that. She stared warily at everyone in there. It seemed that they were harmless but Elyse wasn't so sure. She hesitantly took a bite of her pizza and looked up. It seemed as this one person was watching her eat her slice. She stared back with a steady gaze. They stared back which rattled elyse. She jumped up and bolted out of the door wincing at the chimes again. She stalked over to a bench and sat down there hoping for peace. Much to her dismay that was not going to happen seeing someone heading her way.
