Sammie felt the rain running down her face, her hair, damping her shoulders. But the good thing was, it hid her tears. Nobody could tell she was crying. So that’s why she thanked the rain. She looked up at the sky- dark, gray, twisted, so vast and mysterious. She looked around her. Lush green grass, tiny water droplets falling slowly off of their tips, hitting the muddy ground with a so-subtle splash. Sammie tipped her head back, taking in the rain, letting it was away her tears. Midnight lay next to her, his head on her leg, her hand on his soft, warm neck. Harley was trotting in the distance, waiting for Midnight to come, but Midnight’s wouldn’t be coming. He was there for her, he’d never leave her. And truthfully, Sammie knew that neither would Violet. But Sammie knew she couldn’t call Vi when she was like this, she wouldn’t even understand what she was saying through her chokes and sobs. But then Sammie came to her senses. Of course she would. She pulled out her phone, careful to not let it slip through her wet hands. She heard it ringing, ringing, and waiting for her best friend to pick up.

Violet awoke to the sound of rain. Turning over in her bed, she saw Sammie's bed was empty, and scarier, unmade. Sammie, a total neat freak, had a color coordinated closet. She would never leave her bed unmade. Shrugging, Violet dragged herself out of bed, turning on the shower water. After her shower, she changed into a pair of fresh clean breeches and a button down black blouse. Putting a gold stud in her nose, she tried to figure out how to use Sammie's straightener. "What the..." She mumbled, looking at the hundreds of hair products in Sammie's drawers. Violet eventually managed to straighten her hair so it hung to her waist. Then pulling it into a glossy low ponytail, she was startled by the sound of her IPhone vibrating. She picked up. "Hey." She said, slightly cautious. "Where were you this morning." She heard the sound of rain. "Are you outside?" I said, pulling on a sweatshirt.

Violet, now worried, began walking outside. "Sammie, where are you?" She said, placing her phone inside the hood so it wouldnt get wet. Looking around, she saw a little blur with a bigger blur next to it down at the stables. "Are you in Harley and Midnight's feild?" She said, stepping under a ledge to stay dry.

Finding Sammie in the field, Violet leaned down beside her. "Sammie? Honey, let's go inside." She hoisted her trembling body up and walked her to the stables, Harley and Midnight in tow. Walking inside the heated barn, Violet flipped on the lights. They were alone. She gently placed Sammie on a hay bale, and sat down beside her, rubbing her back. "It's gonna be ok. Let it all out." She said softly, her brown curls hanging past her shoulders. Harley and Midnight mozeyed to there stalls and began eating.
