Yeah, Mom, everything's fine. I have to go meet my bestfriend at the Ice Cream Shop, so can you just call me later? Sammie sighed deeply as she typed the message, tiny tears falling from her eyes and onto the screen of her iPhone five. She sighed, taking a deep breath, and walked into the bathroom of the Orchard dorm she shared with Violet. Vi had been at the stables and told Sammie to meet her at the Ice Cream Shop, which the blond gladly agreed to. She needed a distraction, stat. Sammie looked in the mirror. There was a few tiny mascara smudges below her eyes and running down her cheeks, her lip gloss was coming off on the corners of her mouth and her eyeshadow was smeared from trying to rub the tears away. Sammie pulled her messy, platinum blond hair out of the low ponytail it had been in. She was a mess, since she hadn't combed it out last night, or even bothered to take off her makeup, before throwing herself into bed. She was exhausted, since she'd barely slept a wink, and she felt weak. She needed a cool shower, so she turned on the water and waited for it to reach the perfect temperature.
When it did, she hopped inside and rubbed her face completely clean with a washcloth, until her clear skin was bright and clear. Although she couldn't wash away the dark circles, there was always makeup. Sammie rubbed down the rest of her body with her Mango Splash body wash and rinsed, savoring the sweet scent of fruity goodness, taking it all in. Then, she grabbed her slippery bottle of Mint Vanilla Shampoo and lathered it deep into her platinum blond hair, which had a naturally golden tint. She could feel it cleansing her scalp, every strand of hair, fresh. She rinsed and repeated before grabbing her Clementine/Lavender conditioner from the shower shelf and smoothing it into her long hair. When she washed it out, her hair was nice and silky, not tangled like it had been before. She made sure every ounce of shampoo and conditioner were washed out, before stepping out of the shower, squeezing her hair into a puffy, pale pink Paris Cotton towel and wrapping it around herself. She felt cool air prick at her arms but it felt nice instead of annoying. Sammie scanned her long, purple framed closet from Love It Catalog and chose the perfect outfit for a casual outing with her best friend. After laying it out on her bed, she went back into the bathroom, blew out her long, soft blond hair until it was dry and pretty, falling around her shoulders, setting off a soft, harmless glow. She combed it out and let it become straight and gorgeous. Then, she tied on her Deep Red silk bathrobe from NYC and towel-dried her face, arms and legs until they were smooth and soft and dry. She applied a beautiful coat of makeup- a touch of Sunshine Chick Lover golden mascara to make her eyelashes even longer, thicker, and prettier. She swept on a thick coat of Grape clear lipgloss, giving her lips a lovely sparkle and glow, she applied a foundation base to make her clear skin even more perfect and a light brush of tan eyeshadow to match her skin tone perfectly and accent her beautiful, big, china blue eyes. When she was done, she admired her work in the mirror, very well done and stunning. She walked out of the bathroom and hurried to put on the outfit and check it in the mirror, approve, grab her purse and head out the door, looking beautiful but feeling the complete opposite. Though she felt a little better after her shower, she still felt a strain on her heart and only she knew why.
When Sammie stepped out of Orchard, the air was unseasonably warm for mid-November and Sammie was glad her jacket wasn't too heavy. The campus was bustling with people, and as she walked by, people waved at her and made way for her, tossing her bright smiles and grins, complimenting her on how great she looked. Sammie loved being their queen B, but today, she was not in the mood. She got to the Ice Cream Shop as quick as possible, and fortunately, it was pretty much empty apart from a few grade 7 girls in the corner who looked up enviously at her and waved stupidly. Sammie walked up to the counter, ordered a Rasberry frozen yogurt in a small bowl, (she didn't feel like drowning herself in sweets), and headed for the middle, table for two. She expected Vi to be here any second, but she willed herself to not look like the loser who watched the door.
Sammie ignored the texts she got, hoping they weren't from Vi but not wanting to risk seeing a frenzy of "Hey! Want to hang out?" texts from people who barely knew her. Sammie blinked and looked up when someone entered, hoping it would be Violet.
