I muttered, my voice muffled by my horse, Midnight's, shiny black-haired neck. I stroked his back, standing on my tippy toes to kiss his forehead and giggle. I hadn't seen him in month, but I could see that the grooms, Mike and Doug, had taken pretty good care of him. "Trust me. Cali was mega-boring without my Midnight." I chuckled, combing some tangles out of his shiny black mane with my fingers. "Let me grab the grooming kit. Then we can tack up and ride!" I whispered excitedly, patting his shoulder lightly and dancing gracefully out of the stall and standing on my tippy-toes to grab the mint green grooming kit, which I'd gotten for christmas from a boyfriend i couldn't remember the name of. it had "midnight" etched into the side in pale pink and my name was in the top corner in pretty cursive.
i groomed midnight until he shone like a brand new limousine and then grabbed his tack. the saddle was as black as midnight's soft fur and glistened in the afternoon sun. the reins on the bridle reminded me of a braid, like the ones that i did in midnight's tail before shows, and it was a deep copper and the colour reminded me of a penny.
I slid my slim foot into the stirrup and swung myself gracefully into the saddle, gathering the reins in a moderate grip and smoothing my neat french braid that lay under my uber-expensive show helmet. suddenly, i heard hoofbeats behind me. my head snapped around and i studied who it was. |

I trotted Raven my stunning black 16.1 hand arabian mare towards one of Canterwood Crests large arenas. Raven was donned in bright orange tack which included orange leg wraps, orange saddle pad, orange gem studded black bridle and her black saddle. I wore a new troxel helmet and pale birch colored breeches and knee high black boots and black full finger black riding gloves I was also wearing a pretty shirt with a pink pendant flower necklace around my neck. I brushed a stray strand of hair out of my face I entered the ring and closed the gate behind me and I looked up surprised to see anther horse and rider already in the ring. Sammie the girl from the Sweet Shoppe I gave her a small smile and a little wave I figured that i'd just do a bit of flatwork since Raven was acting up a bit today. I figured it was just one of her bad days and as my old instructor had told 'every horse is entitled to bad day just like a person is " I looked at Sammie and said, "I hope I can join i'll stay out of your way" Outfit: www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=74024623 |

'you know, i remember you. and i think staying out of my way would be a very good idea." i smiled, my bright red lips curling evilly. "i thought you'd see it my way." i said, glancing at her horse, who was about a half-hand shorter and a hella lot stockier than midnight, who had the best bloodlines. "pretty horse. what's it's name?" i asked boredly, examining my manicure. |

I stiffened and looked at Sammie before I said, "Look I get we got off on the wrong foot I said somethings I should have I was nervous I tend to say things I regret saying later when i'm nervous this is my first time in such a big school i'm sorry if I offended you back in the sWeet shoppe I was just REALLY nervous about having so many people around me and This is Midnight Raven but I call her Raven your horses is pretty too what his name?"
I glanced at her as she started examining her nails like she had better things to do to talk to me. I ignored that and started warming Raven up going forwards into a nice collected trot I had to pull her in to get her going straight once or twice but I figured it was because of Sammie and her horse I gave Raven a tap with my crop sending her forward into the perfect speed of trot.
We circled the ring once more before I made her do a direction change and go around the ring in the opposite direction. I posted nicely and easily falling into the rhythm of the rising trot before slowed Raven and sent her back towards Sammie and her horse.

"And I hate to break it you, sweetie, but no matter how hard you try to forget it, it'll always remember you." I snapped, tilting my head and gathering my reins again. "Now, how about a nice, friendly race?" I asked, my face sly and mean. I edged Midnight closer to her and lifted myself gracefully to whisper. "I hear there's a storm brewing. better get some riding in." i said lowly, my voice creepy and threatening. |

I looked at her my stomach tightened I did not like the sound of her voice nor did I like the idea of what she was planning I knew for a fact that Raven no matter have brave and bomb-proofed she was would panic should things go awry especially in a storm. I looked out to the horizon and sure enough in the distance there were large black shadowy cloud bearing down on campus. I looked at Raven and leaned down to whisper quietly in the black mares ear "Two can play at this game girly right?"
I looked at Sammie and picked up my reins and shortened them and adjusted my feet in the stirrups and made sure I was ready for a gallop and said, "Sure let's go me and Raven could use with some excitement" I let myself relax as I tried not to look scared even though I was I had no idea what Sammie had in store for me and Raven and what her intentions were for this race.

I turned back to her. "Come on, I know a great trail." I paused to grin. "unless you're too scared." i said, raising both eyebrows. "storms can get pretty bad here at canterwood." i said, tilting my head and smiling evilly. I turned back around and slowed Midnight's trot, waiting to see if she'd follow. |

I took a deep breath and gave Raven a few big kicks and a hard tap with black leather riding crop sending her forwards right away into a nice fast yet collected trot I trotted beside Sammie and her horse Midnight. I said, "I'm coming a trail sounds nice and me and Raven aren't afraid of a little storm" I glanced apprehensively at the steadily darkening sky and the swelling storm clouds as they bore down upon the large campus. I knew at that moment were at the calm before the storm seeing as there was no wind and barely any noise besides the horses hoofbeats and her own breathing.

"Big mistake." I said sharply, my voice taunting, mocking, out of reach. We reached the trail, it was wide and lined with green bushes and tall trees, the sky blocked out my grand bunches of leaf and branches. The ground was soft but firm and covered in tiny, soft clovers and weeds. I smiled evilly to myself, cocky. Midnight was an off-the-track racehorse, he was the fastest here, pure thoroughbred with flawless bloodlines. there was no way i'd lose. "Are you ready?" I asked, tightening my reins and lowering my heels, bracing myself for takeoff in the saddle. Midnight tensed happily. He was even more excited than I was. He loved beating other horses- flaunting his long, muscular legs, showing off. |

I looked around the area at the scenery thinking about how beautiful it was despite the darkness around I realized I couldn't see the sky any more because the thick foliage that towered above us. I looked Midnight Sammie's horse over and noted how powerful his legs were a good combination for running. Raven was fast but most likely not as fast as Sammie's horse Midnight but I didn't care I was doing this for the fun of it not to prove anything. I prepared myself to go into the gallop and looked at Sammie and said, "I'm ready" I made sure my reins were as short as they could go and that I good grip on them and on Raven's mane.

"ready..." I said, grinning. "set..." i continued, suspense filling my light, girly voice. "go." i said sharply, squeezing midnight's sides and loosening the reins. he shot forward, bouncing off of his haunches, shooting into a rocket-like gallop, his head pushing at least three metres ahead of raven and bridget. my braid flailed behind me, i leaned forward, taking on flawless position, and let midnight keep the current pace. i had a killer strategy, bulletproof. i'd use every ounce of speed and power midnight had a few metres before the finish line, and end up in front. |

I set Raven forwards I held Raven back though I'd let her save her energy before I released her and let go all out before the finish and try and win. My blonde hair fell out of it's bun and fell into neat waves that flew out behind me like a waving golden yellow banner. Raven was pushing and straining to get her head so she could faster but I held her back. I glanced swiftly at the sky just as blinding flash of lightning dazzled the sky and a roar of thunder near split me ear drums.

Midnight could gallop full speed for a day without a drop of sweat. She surged him forwards, squeezing his sides so he bounded forward, gaining more speed. I could see the end of the grassy trail in the distance and it motivated me. i grinned slyly and took in the energy. thunder shook the trees and i laughed, enjoying myself. |

I glanced at Sammie and Midnight as they surged forward I held Raven back until I spotted the end of the trail and gave Raven a huge kick and lot more rein and gave her a quick hard tap with my crop and we surged forwards until we were neck and neck with SAmmie and Midnight. The trees were shaking like mad with sudden upcoming of wind and the rain pouring down now soaking my clothes and any exposed skin I glanced at the black sky and grimaced but turned my attention back to the race I was in the middle of having with Sammie.

He wasn't even close to sweat and Sammie was having the time of her life. She leaned forward. "Go!" she said excitedly, and Midnight added another notch of energy to his stride as they pulled ahead and flew over the finish line, victorious. She slowed Midnight to a quick, steady canter and then a smooth trot before pulling him up to a swift walk and twisting to grin boldly at Bridget. She tilted her head. "You fight a good battle." Sammie raised an eyebrow. "But everybody knows that the supreme art of war is to defeat an enemy without fighting." Sammie narrowed her eyes. "And that's exactly what I did- I didn't even have to fight." She chuckled, squeezing midnight's sides so he picked up a quick, graceful walk. "Better hurry, hon. I think i just felt a drop." she said, grinning evilly as she cantered away, past the trees as the sky rumbled and the ground shook, water just beginning to fall. |
